SEAT moves beyond the Lions: the next chapter is as big as Texas

March 10, 2025

In early 2023, a coalition of students came together in partnership with our Lions Club with a vision: teach their fellow students how to self-advocate for the change they seek in Texas. Students Engaged in Advancing Texas officially came into existence under the fiscal sponsorship of our associated Katy Lions Foundation, and for the last 2 years, have facilitated hundreds of hours of classes, trainings, seminars, and educational opportunities, resulting in dozens of students testifying before school boards, city councils, state committees, and the United Nations.

Students Engaged in Advancing Texas has grown from a small movement, into a powerhouse that needs its own nonprofit designation, without the restrictions necessary for operation inside a Lions Club. We are extremely proud of the work that these amazing young leaders have accomplished and are delighted to support them in this next chapter.

Where possible, the Fort Bend County West Lions Club will continue to collaborate directly and provide support. We also look forward to the additional fundraising opportunities, educational avenues, and doors that will now be opened. And of course, we’ll be with them at the Texas Capitol on April 23rd for their 3rd Annual Advocacy Day.

Katy-based Fort Bend County West Lions Club Invites Volunteers in Greater Katy, Fort Bend County, and West Houston to Make a Difference

The Katy-based Fort Bend County West Lions Club is seeking service-minded individuals to join them in making a difference in the community. Around the world, Lions are serving their neighborhoods and beyond while focusing on the global causes: helping humanity, ending hunger, battling pediatric cancer, protecting our environment, serving youth, defeating diabetes, saving vision, and relieving disaster.

“Our club inspires members to advance worthy causes, serve with friends, and become leaders in the community. This club means a lot to our Lions, but it means so much more to the people we serve,” said Rev. David Greene, the club’s president.

The club hosts monthly community seminars the third Wednesday of each month at Park Place at the Boardwalk on Kingsland starting at 7 pm. Rev. David encourages the public to come out and learn more about the club’s work.

“We want to share the impact we’re making in the community, and let others know how they can help,” said Raevyn Adams, the club’s vice president.

The Lions International motto is “We Serve,” and the club has lived up to it. For over 51 years, the Lions in Katy have served through scholarships, vision assistance, environmental cleanups, food collecting, toy drives, disaster recovery initiatives after catastrophic weather events, and partnerships with local nonprofit organizations.

To learn more about the club, our monthly seminars held by the Fort Bend Lions, and its service projects, contact Rev. David Greene.

Lions International is the largest service organization in the world. Its 1.4 million members in more than 49,000 clubs serve communities in over 200 countries and geographical areas around the globe. Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired, championed youth initiatives and strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects.
